The World of Westloft Architecture

Alcove

A recessed space with excellent potential for books, art, lighting and mild domestic smugness.

The definition

What is Alcove?

An alcove is a recessed area within a room, often found beside a chimney breast in older homes.

The Westloft perspective

In the World of Westloft

Westloft treats the alcove as a small stage: for shelves, a framed print, a lamp, a stack of books or the sort of object that looks discovered rather than bought.
